BFM was formed in 1999 by established programme maker Maggie Fogarty and high profile lawyer, Paul Bacon. Both are company directors.
Maggie has made factual and popular factual programmes for all the main terrestrial channels including peak-time series. As a legal commentator, Paul has contributed to a large number of TV programmes - his son is the TV presenter Richard Bacon.
BFM has made programmes for all the main terrestrial TV channels - building a company 'brand' largely built on high level access based programmes. The first contract, (which launched BFM as a company), was the independent Channel Four News Bureau for the Midlands. This has been followed by a portfolio of network programmes for BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Five TV. (See What We Do).
Senior broadcaster and writer David Jessel joined the company as a non-executive director in 2001.
BFM won the 2005 Royal Television Society's midlands centre award (Best Independent Production for Television) for its BBC1 documentary '30 Years On: The Birmingham Bombings'
